The nine-hole Dempsey Ridge Golf Course was built in 1970 by a partnership of 13 men. The course was known as the Thunder Canyon Golf Course until the spring of 2009, when it was renamed Dempsey Ridge Golf Course.
With the new name comes new management—partners who are direct descendents of the last living founder of the original golf course. They bring passion and commitment to superior course and turf management and a vision to make Lava's course the gleaming, stream-laced jewel of the five-county area.
The partners—Josef Benglan and Chet Davids—bring more than passion and commitment, they bring savvy. Chet and Josef all have turf and course management experience and countless rounds of golf-playing wisdom to offer beginners or those looking to work the kinks out of their game.

The course is tucked in the Dempsey Creek valley south of the resort town of Lava Hot Springs where Merrick and Dempsey Creek roads meet. Lava is just eleven miles from I-15 (McCammon exit) going east on Highway 30, with the course 3 miles south of town.
